My first term began just a few months ago as your Ward 1 councilor-at-large in March of 2021, and I am running again for a full term in our November 2nd, 2021 elections this year as well.

It has been an honor to serve, a pleasure to get to know so many of you from around Ward 1 and across Newton, and a privilege to work on your behalf on issues large and small.

Now, I hope to earn your vote in the regular election - my 2nd of 2021.

A Little About me

I grew up outside of Detroit, Michigan and am a proud Michigan State University graduate (Go Green!), with a degree in Industrial and Organizational Psychology. After graduation, I began my career working with the Jeep brand, in marketing which led to an expatriate assignment in Sydney, Australia.

In 2002, I moved from Michigan to Massachusetts for a job opportunity in the Boston area; I am a consultant focused on performance marketing and change management. I purchased a home in Newton in 2003, met my wife soon after and have been here since. We got married in 2005 and our son Griffin was born the following year. I now reside in Ward 1, not far from the new Horace Mann elementary school (aka the ‘old’ Carr school).

As an active member of the community, I truly enjoy everything our city has to offer from our schools, to award-winning restaurants and shops, to riverside recreation and more.

Working for our Community

In 2012 my son started at Horace Mann elementary; I joined the PTO as Treasurer and later became Co-President, a role I held again at Newton North High School. From 2013 through 2020, I was a volunteer coach for youth sports (Newton Youth Soccer and BAYS). I am proud to work with Newton Athletic Fields Foundation, advocating to improve Newton’s fields. In 2019 the City Council appointed me to the Newton Community Education commission, I also volunteered with the Newton Food Pantry during the pandemic.

In 2019, the city was looking for a site to build the new senior center. When the list of preferred locations published, I was bothered to see the only options listed were Newton parks. Albemarle Field was chosen as the preferred location, despite it being the most-used park in the city for youth sports, adult recreation and more. I helped lead the effort to protect Albemarle and find a location better suited for the facility. I am proud to have worked on this project and look forward to the re-opening of the senior center in Newtonville.

Serving our city

As an active member of the Newton community for nearly two decades, I feel privileged to have served in various appointed and volunteer roles to help better our city. Together, we can achieve' ‘the Newton we want’ by fostering the spirit of the city we already love.

I look forward to continuing to represent you and your interests on the City Council.

Commitment. Experience. Results.
